Is the Internet a Panopticon?
I believe the internet is like a Panopticon. For instance, when you log into Facebook you are bombarded with advertising down the right side of the page, which is supposed to be directed toward your browsing history. Although, I’m not really sure how ads promoting finding a pagan husband are really any part of my browsing history at all… It is also reflected by user generated content which is collected and reported on publicly. This sort of surveillance, or tracking, demonstrates one of the key aspects of a Panopticon, in that the user is being watched without their knowledge.
